Rating: A
MetaCrawler is a very good metasearch engine. It gets results from a
number of popular search engines, and then averages the relevancy scores to return the
most relevant results first. This usually results in large pages, listed in many search
engines, to be given the highest relevancy score. Because it is a metasearch engine,
MetaCrawler is very good for finding obscure information, but because of the scoring
system it is also good for general searches. MetaCrawler also offers features such as
"power search" and a directory, and bizarre features such as "Email results
to a friend".
Pros and Cons:
PROS |
CONS |
| MetaCrawler supports all of the advanced features of the
search engines that it uses. |
Depending on the search engine they come from results can
be displayed in a confusing and incomplete manner. |
| MetaCrawler searches make good use of all search engine's
ranking features to provide relevant results, on even obscure searches. |
Operators you use will be ignored if insufficient results
are found when they are included, and thus can not be used to limit search results. |
| MetaCrawler offers other suggestions on your search that
can be very useful in finding what you are looking for, as well as other useful searching
features. |
Because of the nature of the metasearch engine the same
page can come up in the results many times, through different search engines. |
