LookSmart is a very good category based search engine. It has a large index of categories, and provides categories for Excite and also MSN Netsearch. While LookSmart does not offer an "advanced search" option, the normal search supports operators. LookSmart also has all of common non search features, such as email and shopping.

Pros and Cons:

PROS	CONS
A large directory with many categories, and then web results from AltaVista provides LookSmart with a very good size database, for even obscure searches.	While the categories are good, they are displayed in a confusing way that makes browsing through the categories nearly impossible.
The results returned from this large database tend to be sorted well, and relevant, even without use of operators.	Results are presented in a confusing way that is hard to read.
LookSmart Live allows you to ask specific questions and get answers to them, from people.	Multiple similar, or identical results, from the same server are commonplace.
