Bomis is a web ring, although I do not find it as good as WebRing.org. It contains groupings, of links to sites, called rings, based around a category. Ironically, the first thing that shows up if your perform a search using Bomis, are web sites, found through Goto.com. After scrolling through these you will get to the rings themselves. The rings are set up in hierarchical categories much like those used by category based search engines. Once you find the ring that matches your search, or is in the category you were looking for you go to the ring page, which displays the actual pages in that ring. There is a brief description of each page.

Pros and Cons:

PROS

CONS

You don't have to deal with as many of the poor quality sites found by search engines, because all of the sites were added by the administrator of that site. While searching for a group of rings is easy, finding the ring you want within a large grouping ring can be difficult, as no way to search through them, but scrolling down, is apparent.
Because it is a webring Bomis is more organized then even category based search engines. Ring  listings takes up half of the results area, while an equal sized column of ads next to it, takes up the same amount of space. This is annoying.
Very useful for finding sites on a particular topic, or in a specific category. While it is useful for finding web sites on a topic, there is not really any point in using Bomis to find information.
