| General Search Engines These are, as the name implies, general search engines. They are probably the search engines you have been using the most. While these are some of the most popular search engines, they are not necessarily the best, even for very general, or basic, searches. Both category based, and metasearch, engines will look through a similar database of web sites. The main thing that makes a general search engine general, is that it will search through a specific database of sites, and return the sites that best mach your search criteria. A metasearch engine, will use many different general search engines, to find what you are looking for. Because of this, metasearch engines, can often return more results on an obscure subject. If you are looking for web sites about a popular subject, you will probably want to use a general search engine, because they tend to have better results then metasearch engines, when there are a lot of hits. These results are also often organized much better. Of course, if you really want organization you could try using a category based search engine. |
